摘要：vesicularstructuresarepromisingmaterialsforencapsulationapplications,andvesiclescomposedfromblockcopolymersareattractiveinthisregardbecauseoftheirstabilityandtunability.however,vesicleformationfromcopolymersgenerallyrequiresspecializedprocedures.thisarticledemonstratesthatethyleneoxide/butyleneoxidediblockcopolymersspontaneouslyformmicrometer-sized,multilamellarvesicles(“onions”)overabroadrangeofconcentrationsuponsimplemixingwithwater.thesestructureslikelyformduetotherelativelylargevolume-to-lengthratioofthebutyleneoxidehydrophobe,andvesicleformationalsodependsonthelengthoftheethyleneoxideheadgroup.structureswerecharacterizedusingplane-polarizedlightmicroscopy,dynamiclightscattering,andcryogenicscanningelectronmicroscopy.themultilamellarvesiclessurvivesonicationandmoderateshear.vesiclesizecanbereducedbyextrusionthroughaporousmembrane,butfinaldiameterisindependentofshearrateandmembraneporesize.
